Raymond Queneau (21 February 1903 – 25 October 1976) was a French novelist, poet, and co-founder of Ouvroir de littérature potentielle (Oulipo), notable for his wit and his cynical humour. He was involved with the Surrealists but when was expelled from the group in 1930. He had his first literary success with Pierrot mon ami in 1942. However, he only achieved popular success with his novel Zazie dans le metro (Zazie), published in 1959. Zazie was made into a successful film.
