Marguerite Duras experienced the last war both as a woman whose husband had been deported, as a resistance fighter, but also as a writer. Lucid, amazed, sometimes desperate, during these years she kept a diary, wrote texts inspired by everything she saw, what she experienced, the people she met or encountered.
It is these stories and extracts from her diary that Marguerite Duras brought together under the title La Douleur.
