The Kites

The kites (Les cerfs-volants in French)

The Kites

Published in 1980, this book begins in the 1930s, in Normandy. Ludo, a 10-year-old boy from Normandy, meets Lila, a beautiful and whimsical young girl of Polish aristocratic origin, on vacation in the region. Their love naturally grew with the seasons between France and Poland. Ludo is accompanied by his uncle, who is known by the nickname of “the crazy postman” because he manufactures wonderful kites renowned all over the world. One last time, the author speaks about the war in a tone that rings true, and denounces the absurdity of war with confidence in life and love.
